December!!

We're only two weeks away from the end of the semester! Time has so quickly flown by that I sometimes can't remember where it's all gone! Here are a couple Children's Illustration pages and some studies for Computer Illustration. I'm having a good time learning about art and about myself, but Christmas break is very welcomed :)

Some things..

November has come so quickly! First an illustration assignment! I made and strung paper cranes for a Music Festival Poster. It was fun trying something new. The next is my attempt at Corel Painter. I struggled a lot with the program and was fairly frustrated at times, but I think I need to give it a second chance.

It's almost Thanksgiving! I'm excited for a break, and even more excited for the changes that will come with next semester.

Day for Night

In Illustration class, we got an assignment where we had get a reference shot during the day, paint it, and then make the same painting as if it were during the night. It was unquestionably a very challenging project, but I definitely feel I've learned a lot! The boy in the paintings is Sandile (san DEE leh), who Stevie and I met back in Swaziland. He had such a great little spirit! I had a good time remembering him through this project :)

Pratt doesn't ever give us much time for assignments, and this lack of time, though sometimes frustrating, really makes me just sit down and go to get something done (or as close to done as possible). I've learned so much so far this semester about my approach to things, and I can't wait to learn more!

Busy Bees

Hello! Here is just a quick update with a test from a new technique Pratt showed us and a Computer Illustration assignment :)

Icons!

Here are all three icons together! I chose South American animals as my theme. I did my best to have them appeal to young children. I'm least confident with the butterfly and still need to tweak some things (didn't realize how crazy his left eye looks!). These colors aren't exactly what appears on my screen, but you get the idea :)
I enjoy vectoring, but it's hard to let a project go. There always seems to be another thing to improve!

Here is a bit of this semester's work so far! The first two are from Illustration 2, both still need work.. The next two images are designs for Children's Book Illustration. Please excuse the bad photos.. The last two are two of three icons from Computer Illustration. They aren't quite finished yet. I like the toucan the best :)

What a Time!

It's been a while since I've last updated.. again. I changed up the layout and hope to be more consistent with posting this year, which has proven to be a busy one. With the third week of the semester already gone, junior year is definitely in full swing! I'm really enjoying all of my classes. I'm lucky to have a good variety this year. Figure painting, Computer Illustration, Children's Illustration, and Illustration 2 will all challenge me in different ways. It's exciting to know I'll be pushed more than I have been before.

This past week I also wrote up the final report for the Davis Projects for Peace. It was a nice way to look back on Stevie's and my great experience in Swaziland. We still have a lot of work to do our children's book, but remembering our adventure got me excited for the next one, whatever it may be. I don't think I'll apply for the Davis Peace grant again this summer (winning it twice is already more than I could ever ask for!), but I know I'll find other ways to do what I want to do. One thing I learned from this summer is that if I really want to do something, I always find a way to do it, it's just a matter of figuring out what I want to do.

I don't have anything to post this time. I need to photograph some recent work first. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a decent update :)
